I have been walking for as long as I can remember (before that I was crawling!)...no seriously, I have enjoyed walking, mainly coastal routes, since I was a teenager, and had my own transport to take me there.

I have had many memorable walks over the years (nothing like Kilimanjaro!) like one day treks in Malaysia's Taman Negara (National Park), the Blue Mountains...the Grampians...King's Canyon and the Atherton Tablelands in Australia, and the Fox Glacier in New Zealand. There are also great walks a bit nearer to home. Mount Errigal in Donegal, springs to mind, as does Ben Nevis via the Carn mor Dearg arete....fantastic memories from them all!

When Stephen and Irwin approached me about this challenge, I had already been wondering what I could do, to show my appreciation, and raise funds for the Northern Ireland Childrens Hospice, following the fantastic treatment we experienced there, with our wee daughter Keren. She spent the last week of her short life there, and it really made me aware of the wonderful work they do, for whole families, not just the patients. Please visit my site, KerenOwens.com, to read more about her, and the Hospice.

One thing led to another, and here I am now...preparing for the biggest trek of my life!
